Regular exercise can increase antioxidant activity and reduce oxidative stress.
Oxidative stress is not only factor in conditions such as heart disease and diabetes, it is also linked to dry eye disease and age-related macular degeneration. AMD is the leading cause of blindness in the UK.
Aerobic Activity
Aerobic exercise can help increase oxygen supplies to the optic nerve protecting from raised pressure in the eye, helping to prevent and control conditions such as glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
Regular Exercise
Regular exercise can also improve blood flow to the retina and optic nerve, helping to inhibit the progression of diabetic retinopathy, potentially a serious condition that can leas to extensive sight loss.
NHS Guidance
It is advised hat adults should do some form of exercise every day and aim for 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity over the course of a week.
